Prepress Software :: RE: Indesign: Any way for crop marks to print only black?
Hmm, I feel your pain, had same issue on my HP Indigo Clicks. Only solution we found was to go ahead to pdf, use PitStop to convert the black only page, then go. There are so many docs that are SUPPOSED to black only but contain RGB black, thus will go 4cp. It's because of that why i decided to simplyt use Pitstop and check/convert every black page to be sure it's all done. If crops are in the PDF, bam, they are now black only too. Prepress Software :: RE: Way to export multipage ID doc into single pages?
Over on Adobe's forums there is a pretty long thread about this issue: http://www.adobeforums.com/webx/.59b57c28 It looks likes some people posted a script or two but there might be bugs in them. If you only need to export PDFs or EPSs you could use Page Exporter Utility 5 Script, it works nicely. http://indesignsecrets.com/page-exporter-utility-peu-5-script-updated-for-cs3.php Just curious, are you wanting to export single pages so different people could work on different sections of the file? If so you might look into using VersionCue, I've never used it, never seemed to have a reason to, but it might... - Read More at This Link..

Digital Printing Forum :: RE: PDF Printing Issue
As a last-ditch resort, if you have no qualms about converting text to outlines, etc., take the file with conversions done and open in Illustrator, re-save as Illus .eps, and placed in InDesign to output or distill directly. If it still acts odd, down-save the Illus .eps to Postscript Level 2, and repeat. I have had Nexus and Rampage both error until I used Illus on .eps files and either placed-printed/exported, or directly RIPed the simplified file. My only issues ever was the possibility of losin transparency that comes over in Level 3. _ Although I have over 20 years exp. in sys... - Read More at This Link..

Hi Jamina, I know this is a bit late but, If you create a pdf preset (job options) for indesign you can export to any version of pdf you like. Eliminate the postcript stage and go direct from Indesign. Postscript tends to flatten transparency , going direct to pdf 1.4 and up will preserve it. Cheers, Tom - Read More at This Link..

We impose hundreds of PDF files everyday in Indesign CS3. When finished we export the whole page as a PDF which goes to our RIP. During the exporting process some images simply jump out of their bounding boxes and ruin the job. I've contacted Adobe about this and they acknowledge there is a bug, does anybody know of a way we can stop this happening by changing say a PDF setting. Previously, I have told them not to import layered psd files into InDesign, but to save them as flattened TIFs before importing. I know in early versions of InDesign, PSDs with many layers would cause the file to take longer to rip. It might be the fonts that are installed on your machine. Try this. 1) change the fonts that you are having problem with to say Arial or Times. Just as a test, don't worry about re-flow on the page, just print. If the fonts are ok then you need to install the fonts onto the printer somehow. I use a Creo rip and is easy, not sure on your equipment. Try this next 2) select all your text boxes in your doument, go to TYPE>>>Create Outlines. Print now. If the fonts look good, then yes the fonts taht you are using need to be installed on your machine. Hope this helps - Read More at This Link..

OK, so I'm a little late to this party but... I got to beta test an InDesign plugin called P2ID, (get it, Publisher2InDesign) made by Marzware. These are the people who bring us FlightCheck, and several other plugins. With this, you can open a PC Publisher right into Mac InDesign. Check their website (you may even find my review.) It's not perfect, but we do use it with success. Michael - Read More at This Link..

Prepress Software :: RE: Trapping Problems

Prepress Software :: RE: Trapping Problems
Beermonster wrote: "indy will only trap certain elements - for example a placed illustrator file will not get trapped " Would someone comment please on a strategy that I read previously about forcing other/all elements to get auto-trapped in InDesign by: Take InDesign page with all placed vector graphic files, Export PDF, Place that PDF back into a New InDesign file, and then print that file. I have not tried that (my evaluation version of ID has expired), and wondered if that really does help/allow InDesign to trap elements created in other software? Preflight Software :: Marzware Flight Check

Preflight Software :: Marzware Flight Check
Hi all, I work as a designer at a toy company on a PC. I have an old version of Marzware Flight check, v5.5, & have downloaded the update for v.5.8. Now that I have installed CS3, it no longer works. Do you have any suggestions on a different preflight program? We do not have InDesign otherwise I would be using Preflight in that program. Will FreeFlight work for me? Any suggestions you could supply me will help! Thanks. _ Kind regards, toast2town - Read More at This Link..

I agree that the color should be converted at the earliest point. But just to see the other side is If all your Indesign stations don't use the same color settings then the spot could be different depending on the color settings. Now Idealy all your work stations will be set the same and stay that way but as we all have seen the settings will get changes and no one will know who or why they were changed. So if the colors are changed at the rip it doesn't depend on each work station being the same. - Read More at This Link..

Prepress Software :: SPOT-CMYK conversion models

Prepress Software :: SPOT-CMYK conversion models
We're having an issue with color conversions with spot colors. Where I work, we use Prinergy 3. We also do a lot of work in InDesign. When I need to send work that is going to be CMYK and we get it as spot, I change the color in the Ink Manager to CMYK and then send it to the RIP. Our day shift people send the jobs to Prinergy as spot, then do a 2nd refine to convert to CMYK & trap. We're getting color shifts. The dayshift says that I'm doing it wrong, but surprisingly, some of the jobs that have printed, the clients prefer the color of the jobs that I've worked on! Regardless, I'... - Read More at This Link..

Graphic Design Forum :: Safe layout transport from Indesign to Illustrator??
OK, here goes.. I work on a G5 PowerPC Mac with adobe CS3. I do preflighting for P.O.P. graphics, such as floor displays and hanging signs etc. The files I prepare are sent directly to prepress at our vendors for making plates for press or digital printing. So, here at my job, we prefer to work in AI, as we rarely if ever need multi page layouts, and we must work extensively with vector die lines (complex shapes, i.e.not rectangles) to make sure the art is in register. Indesign just doesn't offer the stable enviornment for working with dies that I'd lik... - Read More at This Link..

Thank you Monster of Beers! Yeah, I guess I had a sinking feeling from the get-go that it just wasn't worth it. Placing live vector lines in ID does work nicely. And the risk of changes DOES seem too great to hassle with trying to convert all ID files to Illy. I need to break out of my comfort zone, and get better with ID. It just seems annoying that there is not more stable program transfer among adobes. If ID had certain AI capabilities I suppose i wouldn't b*tch so much. (for example, select same feature in AI is great for pulling dies out of a non-layered file) I suppose I should be grateful th... - Read More at This Link..

hello and welcome to the forums i see your points and i can see where you are coming from. i do similar - not POP, but packaging, cutter guides of weird and wacky shapes, fun interlocking rotated impositions, reverse prints, varnishes, embossing, varnish free areas etc etc but..... i prefer to work in illustrator - much the way you do - it's pretty solid for my needs, communicates with the cad room for cutters really nicely, simple to use, good masking - and so on but i do get indy files as well, so i actually keep those jobs in indy - and i have no issues at all. it works very well, you can copy pas... - Read More at This Link..

I will appreciate a detailed description of how to make the trapping happen when You wrote "and when you output tell it to use indesign built in trapping - wallop - your file is trapped. Or does it mean "tell the Rip"? 4) Can the resulting file be a PDF? Other formats? 5) Bottom line: I want to "intercept" the trapped file, open it, and view the traps. Prepress Software :: Print files into/onto PDF template for proofing
Hi, I am hoping someone may be able to help. I am wanting to set up several PDF templates that will range from A4 -SRA3. these PDF templates will be Proof Approval Templates. I then want to be able to send artwork to print from say InDesign but I want it to print into the PDF template. Hope that makes sense. I would then end up with say a compliment slip artwork centred onto the Proof template enabling me to send out the proof. How do I go about this or is it not something that can easily be done?
