Prepress Software :: RE: Trapping Problems

Prepress Software :: RE: Trapping Problems
Beermonster wrote: "indy will only trap certain elements - for example a placed illustrator file will not get trapped " Would someone comment please on a strategy that I read previously about forcing other/all elements to get auto-trapped in InDesign by: Take InDesign page with all placed vector graphic files, Export PDF, Place that PDF back into a New InDesign file, and then print that file. I have not tried that (my evaluation version of ID has expired), and wondered if that really does help/allow InDesign to trap elements created in other software? Preflight Software :: Marzware Flight Check

Preflight Software :: Marzware Flight Check
Hi all, I work as a designer at a toy company on a PC. I have an old version of Marzware Flight check, v5.5, & have downloaded the update for v.5.8. Now that I have installed CS3, it no longer works. Do you have any suggestions on a different preflight program? We do not have InDesign otherwise I would be using Preflight in that program. Will FreeFlight work for me? Any suggestions you could supply me will help! Thanks. _ Kind regards, toast2town - Read More at This Link..

I agree that the color should be converted at the earliest point. But just to see the other side is If all your Indesign stations don't use the same color settings then the spot could be different depending on the color settings. Now Idealy all your work stations will be set the same and stay that way but as we all have seen the settings will get changes and no one will know who or why they were changed. So if the colors are changed at the rip it doesn't depend on each work station being the same. - Read More at This Link..

Prepress Software :: SPOT-CMYK conversion models

Prepress Software :: SPOT-CMYK conversion models
We're having an issue with color conversions with spot colors. Where I work, we use Prinergy 3. We also do a lot of work in InDesign. When I need to send work that is going to be CMYK and we get it as spot, I change the color in the Ink Manager to CMYK and then send it to the RIP. Our day shift people send the jobs to Prinergy as spot, then do a 2nd refine to convert to CMYK & trap. We're getting color shifts. The dayshift says that I'm doing it wrong, but surprisingly, some of the jobs that have printed, the clients prefer the color of the jobs that I've worked on! Regardless, I'... - Read More at This Link..

Graphic Design Forum :: Safe layout transport from Indesign to Illustrator??

Graphic Design Forum :: Safe layout transport from Indesign to Illustrator??
OK, here goes.. I work on a G5 PowerPC Mac with adobe CS3. I do preflighting for P.O.P. graphics, such as floor displays and hanging signs etc. The files I prepare are sent directly to prepress at our vendors for making plates for press or digital printing. So, here at my job, we prefer to work in AI, as we rarely if ever need multi page layouts, and we must work extensively with vector die lines (complex shapes, i.e.not rectangles) to make sure the art is in register. Indesign just doesn't offer the stable enviornment for working with dies that I'd lik... - Read More at This Link..

Thank you Monster of Beers! Yeah, I guess I had a sinking feeling from the get-go that it just wasn't worth it. Placing live vector lines in ID does work nicely. And the risk of changes DOES seem too great to hassle with trying to convert all ID files to Illy. I need to break out of my comfort zone, and get better with ID. It just seems annoying that there is not more stable program transfer among adobes. If ID had certain AI capabilities I suppose i wouldn't b*tch so much. (for example, select same feature in AI is great for pulling dies out of a non-layered file) I suppose I should be grateful th... - Read More at This Link..

hello and welcome to the forums i see your points and i can see where you are coming from. i do similar - not POP, but packaging, cutter guides of weird and wacky shapes, fun interlocking rotated impositions, reverse prints, varnishes, embossing, varnish free areas etc etc but..... i prefer to work in illustrator - much the way you do - it's pretty solid for my needs, communicates with the cad room for cutters really nicely, simple to use, good masking - and so on but i do get indy files as well, so i actually keep those jobs in indy - and i have no issues at all. it works very well, you can copy pas... - Read More at This Link..
